While Jr. was causing his parents headaches with his marriages and Alfred was off at military school, it seems that the favorite child was Florence Irene Whittell.  As I continue my research it is very clear the George and Anna saw Florence Irene as the daughter they never had.  Even the newspapers would sometimes mistake her as their true daughter.  They hosted several parties for her and lavished all they could on her and her widowed mother.  Florence Irene lived a truly Gilded Age life!
